| Background | Lrp2 belongs to the LDLR family and contains 17 EGF-like domains, 36 LDL-receptor class A domains and 37 LDL-receptor class B repeats. Lrp2 specifically binds clusterin with high affinity, but also ligands in common with other family members: plasminogen, extracellular matrix components, plasminogen activator-plasminogen activator inhibitor type I complex, apolipoprotein E-enriched beta-VLDL, lipoprotein lipase, lactoferrin and calcium. It is invovled in receptor-mediated uptake of polybasic drugs such as aprotinin, aminoglycosides and polymyxin B. Also it may participate in regulation of parathyroid-hormone and para-thyroid-hormone-related protein release. Lrp2 forms a multimeric complex together with a receptor-associated protein (RAP). It binds to ankyrin-repeat family A protein 2 (ANKRA2). It is present in absorptive epithelia, including renal proximal tubules. |
