| Background | Legionella pneumophila is a flagellated gram negative bacterium found primarily in warm water environments. Legionella pneumophila causes a type of pneumonia called Legionnaire disease and a milder condition called Pontiac fever. Infection is acquired through inhalation of the microorganism in water mists (e.g. from air conditioning, cooling towers, whirlpool spas and showers mists). A number of risk factors for acquiring Legionnaire disease have been identified, including age, smoking, chronic lung disease, cancer, and immunosuppression. |
| Caution | Use of sodium azide as a preservative will substantially inhibit the enzyme activity of horseradish peroxidase. |

| Storage | Store the antibody undiluted at 2-8°C for one month or (in aliquots) at -20°C for longer. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Shelf life: one year from despatch. |
