| Background | Brucella abortus causes Brucellosis, an infection that leads to spontaneous abortion, premature calving and infertility in cattle (and other domestic animals; goats, pigs, cattle, dogs, etc). Brucellosis is passed on to humans by drinking infected unpasteurised milk or from contact with discharges from cattle that abort their foetus. In humans, the disease is transmitted either through contaminated or untreated milk and its derivatives, or through direct contact with infected animals. |
