Background of EBNA1 antibody
EBNA1 is a viral protein required to maintain the EBV genomes in proflierating cells. It fulfils this role by binding to recognition sites in the FR and DS elements of the latent origin of DNA replication (oriP) within the episome. This promotes DNA replication and is involved with the partitioning of the episome during cell division and the activation of other viral latency genes. EBNA1 is able to avoid detection by cytotoxic T-lymphocytes which enables the persistence of latently infected cells that express EBNA1 in the absence of other EBV antigens.
