Background of SEMA5A antibody
Members of the semaphorin protein family are involved in axonal guidance during neural development. Semaphorin 5a is thought to have a bifunctional role in axon guidance, exerting both attractive and inhibitory effects on developing axons associated with limbic function. The thrombospondin repeats of Semaphorin 5a physically interact with both heparan sulfate proteoglycans and chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans, inducing attractive and inhibitory guidance cues, respectively. The biological responses to Semaphorin 5a are induced through binding to its high-affinity receptor, plexin B3, triggering intracellular signaling through Met. This product is one of a range of Investigative Grade antibodies, made against targets that have limited or no commercial antibodies available to them and for which there are no data on the expression of the protein in the range of common cell lines and tissues available to us. These antibodies are affinity purified using their peptide immunogen and are known to give low background staining in a western blot. However no additional claims are made for their ability to recognise native protein in any application.
