Background of ST5 antibody
ST5 gene products are expressed as 4.6, 3.1 and 2.8 kb transcripts encoding putative 126, 82 and 70 kDa proteins. The largest ST5 protein, p126, stimulates MAP kinase activation in response to EGF. A second isoform, p82, derived from an alternatively spliced mRNA species, lacks a 420 amino acid segment containing the SH3 binding motifs, and does not stimulate MAP kinase activity. The smallest of the three ST5 isoforms, p70, consists of the 609 C-terminal amino acids shared in common by all three gene products. This protein has homology to the rab3 class of small GTP-binding guanine-nucleotide exchange factors and also to the MAPK Activating Death Domain protein. p70 has been shown to inhibit signaling through p126. This isoform may also play a role in tumor suppression.
ST5 proteins also have been shown to participate directly in events affecting cytoskeletal organization and tumorigenicity.
